DIY Star Wars Costumes
This year for Decadence, I decided that I wanted to make some costumes for myself, my friend, and my cousin. We were all going as a group and I wanted to pick a theme that would involve all of us. I landed on Star Wars rave costumes for our theme. I made my friend an R2-D2 shirt, my cousin a BB8 shirt, and a C3PO rave bra and light up LED headband.
For the R2-D2 shirt, I used Tulip aersol spray fabric paint for the blue and acrylic paint for the rest of the shirt. I started by using painters tape to outline each shape, which I then filled in with the aersol spray paint. I added shading and shadows to certain areas of the shirt to make R2-D2 look like he had been in battle. I finished by hot gluing a submersible waterproof LED to the chest and backing it with a felt pocket on the inside so the LED would be able to be turned on by reaching inside of the pocket and twisting the bottom.
BB8 was all hand-painted using a photo I found on google. The orange was fabric paint and the rest was acrylic paint. Each circle has a different type of detail in the middle. I then added an LED bike light and a waterproof submersible LED light, like I did with the R2D2 shirt and secured them with hot glue and backed them with a felt pocket so they could be turned on from the inside of the shirt.
The C3PO bra was made using Tulip aersol spray fabric paint and yellow glitter was sprinkled on top. I added gears and Swarovski crystals that I got at Michael's craft store for detailing. The headband was made using yellow felt sprayed with gold fabric aersol spray, topped with glitter, and then two circular metal discs were glued on top. Before adding the submersible LEDs to the headband, I had to break off the plastic hook and file it down so that they would lay flat on the metal disks. I hot glued the LEDs to the discs and then tied elastic string to each end of the discs so that it would sit on my head comfortably. I then applied glow in the dark yellow paint stripes to resemble C3PO's eyes. The bottoms and leg wraps were bought at Yandy.
