I Went To Second Sky, Here’s What It’s Like

This weekend I had the amazing opportunity to go to Second Sky. Second Sky is a music festival curated by Porter Robinson to showcase some of his favorite artists as well as perform his own music live for his fans. This year featured music from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, G Jones, Skrillex, Hudson Mohawke, Bladee, Magdelena Bay, Salute, RL Grime, DJ Potaro, and Porter Robinson himself.

This year the theme for Second Sky was "Spooky Sky" because the festival was held Halloween weekend. The Second Sky festival goers dressed up in cosplays and Halloween costumes as well as trending rave attire. It was so awesome to see everyone dressed up as their favorite characters or just being their true authentic self free of judgement at the festival.

I started out the festival by going to the Lionhearted meetup. The Lionhearted is the original Porter Robinson Facebook Fan Group. I was so excited when Potaro showed up to the meetup and everyone started chanting "POTARO! POTARO!" We all took pictures together and with Potaro.

Next up was the House of Plur meetup, which I had the honor of hosting with "Danny From New York aka NOTGLOVINGDANNY". This House of Plur meetup was a bit smaller because most of the Discord members were at Escape Halloween which was this same weekend. But it was so amazing to meet everyone and I feel so honored to have been able to host this meetup!

After the meet up, I made my way over to the water station to fill up my water with Danny and I was impressed to see that the lines for water were fast moving and not bad at all. My favorite part was when so many of you stopped me to tell me that you had seen my videos on social media of me creating my Second Sky outfit! It was so awesome meeting you guys and I made little Kandi bracelets for everyone who said hi!

Next up Danny and I headed into VIP because I was HUNGRY!! I made the choice of getting pulled pork macaroni and cheese and I was not disappointed. There was no line to get food and the food was delicious! Danny and I split up after this with him heading into the Easy Speak and me heading over to meet my friends in GA (and also so I could feed my husband some Mac & Cheese). I got to see Hudson Mohawk play CBAT and I thrusted my little heart out with my friends dancing along! I also got to try my very first Beat Box! Everyone had been talking them up so much and I was so excited to try one. They were definitely tasty, I was not disappointed!

After Hudson Mohawkes set my friends and I made our way over to the Anime Tent. Everyone seemed to have the same opinion on the anime tent...it needed more anime!!! We got some cute pictures together though and regrouped until it was time to head back to go watch Skrillex.

The next set was Skrillex, which unfortunately had a few technical difficulties but he made it work! The crowd definitely reminded me of EDC 2019 Skrillex's set where it was so congested and hard to get out of. I was a bit squished in against a few too many people and had to excuse myself out of the crowd towards the end of the set. From there I went back into VIP to use the bathrooms. The VIP bathrooms were so nice and there were bathroom staff in there cleaning even as I was using the facilities. I definitely appreciate a clean bathroom so thank you so much to the Second Sky staff for keeping the facilities clean!

I ended up meeting back up with Danny for the Virtual Self and G Jones set, which was so much fun. The two artists definitely work really well together as far as doing a B2B and the sound and transitions fit really well together. A nice girl in an Attack on Titan costume took a photo of Danny and I together in front of the stage.

All of our friends met up back together over in GA for the last couple of sets. During RL Grime one of my friends went over to Lost and Found to charge his phone and so his fiancé and I went to go find him. We made a stop over by the Potaro Statue and we were able to capture a photo of all three of us walking by before we made it back to find our group.

Finally it was time to watch Porter's set! I was so amazed to finally see Porter play with a band and to hear his vocals without a filter on them. It was definitely the sound I had been wanting to hear from Porter for quite a while and it did not disappoint! I had so much fun with my friends watching Porter and cannot wait to see what Second Sky has in store for next year!
